Delores "Dood" Stephens Owenby, age 90, passed away on June 11, 2024 at her home in Mineral Bluff, Georgia. She was born to the late Otto and Callie Dean Stephens on April 29, 1934 in Mineral Bluff, Georgia. Delores was preceded in death by her parents; Husband; Joseph (J.C.) Owenby; brothers, James Veach Stephens, John Tommy Stephens, Lon Donald Stephens; sisters Tennie Jo Stephens Love and an infant sister.
Mrs. Owenby is survived by her children; Judy (Gary) Anderson, Joey (Dawn) Owenby and Jane (Tony) Ware; Special cousin like a daughter; Beulah (Larry) Williams. Grandchildren, Justin (Morgan) Owenby, Adrian (Michael) Chambers, Devin Ware and Anna (Hunter Barnes) Ware; Step Grandchildren; Ben Carroll and Jax (Morgan) Carroll. Great Grandchildren: Stetson Owenby, Alana Barnes, Bronson Chambers, Ryleigh Barnes and soon to arrive, Great Granddaughter number 5. Many additional family members and friends also survive.
Delores was of the Christian faith and was a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church. She was a mother to many. As a teenager, at the death of her mother, she raised her siblings and became a caregiver to her father. Mrs. Owenby loved to go fishing and enjoy all of God's created nature. She spent her life making her home a place of love and happiness. She served many delicious meals to family and friends. "Dood", as she was fondly called by many, always left a positive impression an all those whom she met in life. Delores was a fan of Conway Twitty and the Atlanta Braves. She departed this life on the birthday of her late brother Tommy.
Funeral services for Delores "Dood" Stephens Owenby are scheduled to be conducted on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11am from the Cochran-McDaniel Blue Ridge Chapel with Pastor Kelly Joe Maynard officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service with a graveside service conducted by Preacher Will Davis at the New Hope Baptist Church on Loving Road in Morganton, Georgia. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Russell Ware, Chris Williams, Michael Chambers, Hunter Barnes, Ben Carroll and Jax Carroll.
Her family will be receiving friends at the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home Blue Ridge Chapel on Friday evening, June 14, 2024 from 6pm until 9pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in memory of Delores can be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital or the Gideons International or a charity of your choice.
