The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mrs. Debra Ann Rogers, age 60 of Hiawassee who passed away on Tuesday morning, October 30, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Rogers was born in St. Augustine, Florida on October 12, 1952 to the late Hayward and Barbara Norris. With her father serving in the military, she moved quite often and eventually settled in Georgia. She enjoyed the outdoors and all that the mountains had to offer. Debra was a dedicated employee of the U.S Postal Service for 15 years in Hiawassee. Debra would happily give her all to the residents on her route. Forming relationships with them and kindly hand delivering mail to those who could not make it out to their mail box. She was a loving and nurturing mother. Her children were her first priority. She loved to shop for and "spoil" them. Debra was a woman with great faith and was always happy, no matter the circumstances. She was an active member of North Mount Zion Church of God. You could find her smiling face singing in the church choir, involved with the Ladies Ministry and faithfully running the church bookstore. She had a true servants heart and loved people. She would not be one to tell of her love, but would gladly show it to you. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Robert Christian Hall.
She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: loving husband, Jerry Rogers; daughter, Melissa Lynn Rogers; step-son, Christopher Bryan Rogers; grandchildren, Christopher Bryan Knight, Jr. and Jerry Paul Knight; and sister, Joani Norris. Many friends will also share in their loss.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012 from North Mt. Zion Church of God with Rev. Glenn Eller and Rev. Raburne Wilson officiating. She will lie in-state at the church from 1 until the service hour. Musical tribute will be presented by Ryan Wilson. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Larry Hedden, Barry Hedden, Knox Garrett, James Melton, Gary Ash and Ricky Franks. Honorary escort to the family include: Edwin Arrowood and Ed Stamey. Interment will follow in Enotah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.
