David Monroe Hendrix died August 20, 2011 at his home in the Peachtree Community. He was a native and life-time resident of Cherokee County. David was born July 4, 1935 to Clarence Monroe Hendrix and Meb Sudderth Hendrix. He earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Tennessee. David earned his Master's Degree in education from Western Carolina University. He retired from teaching in the early 1990's.
David was preceded in death by his wife Sue Truett Hendrix who died April 23, 2003 and his only child David Jr. who died June 4, 2000. David is survived by two grandsons Matthew and Christopher Hendrix, a brother Edwin Hendrix of Murphy and a sister Mildred Hendrix Stewart of Dallas, Texas, also nieces and nephews.
David and Sue will be remembered for their beautiful yard. They became known as experts in the growing of day lilies. People came from far and near to amble through the yard and garden. Visitors left with day lilies to start their own dream gardens.
Visitation will be held at Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church from 1-3 pm on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. The funeral service will be held 3:00 pm at the church with Dr. Chester Jones officiating and Matthew Hendrix will offer eulogies in David's honor during the service. Burial will be held at the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Bradshaw, Earl Bradshaw, Blain Barnett, G.W. Hendrix, Kenny Sudderth and Mickey Hendrix.
The family requests that memorials be made to the building fund of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church (1650 Hwy 141, Murphy NC 28906) or to charities of their choice.
