Mr. David Jonathan Sedgwick, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at his home. He was 88 years old.
David was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 19, 1927, to the late David and Margaret Sedgwick. He was a World War II Navy veteran, and a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville. David worked as a building contractor and carpenter for many years, and also taught carpentry for ten years in Palm Beach, Florida. He went to Africa, Yemen, France, and Tanzania several times to use his building skills to help make some of their places more livable. His childhood dream was to fly. He built two sailplanes and flew for eight years. David loved to help people in need - that was his ministry. Anyone that wanted to learn his skills, he was always a willing teacher, and ready to share. David loved gardening and he was always ready to assist anyone he could with that.
David was a loving father and husband. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 12 years, Carol Guzman Sedgwick; three daughters: Anita Head, and son-in-law Don, of Blackshear, Georgia; Janet Anderson, and son-in-law Andy, of Musella, Georgia; Terri Przewoznik, and son-in-law, Tom, of Glouster, Virginia; two step-sons, David Hawkins, of Cumming, Georgia, and Danny Hawkins, of Leesburg, Georgia; Seven grandchildren and many great great grandchildren.
Funeral services for David have been scheduled for Monday, January 4, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Music will be provided by Judi Rinehart accompanied by Jackie Hill. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery, with military honors presented by the U.S. Navy and North Georgia Honor Guard. The family has requested that the following gentlemen serve as honorary escort to the family: Elbert Osteen, Dick Howington, Mike Callaway, Tom Carlton, Bob Crowe, and Bill Foster. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home beginning at 12 noon on Monday, January 4.
