David Henry Haight

Mr. David Henry Haight, Jr., age 81 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019, in the Allen-Haight family home in Blue Ridge, GA. Mr. Haight was born July 14, 1937, in Gary, IN, to the late David Henry Haight Sr. and the late Willa Mae Allen Haight and grew up in Blue Ridge, GA. He served in the US Army as a Captain in the 3rd Infantry Tank Division stationed in Germany. Mr. Haight graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's Degree, was the former owner of Blue Ridge C & S, and started cable television companies in five southern states including the cable companies in Murphy, NC, Andrews, NC, and Blairsville, GA. Mr. Haight was also the former owner the Blue Ridge Cable Company, a founding member of People's Bank of Fannin County, and later served as a Board Member of United Community Bank. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville and served on the Beacon Mission Team, where he spent a lot of time working with short term mission trips. He also served as a member of the Blairsville Gideon Camp and worked with the Gideon Jail Ministry. Mr. Haight served on the Board of Directors of the Emmanuel Orphanage in Guaimaca, Honduras, went on a mission trip to Haiti, and worked with the Georgia Disaster Relief Team. Mr. Haight was a philanthropist and tried to help whenever he saw a need. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Haight and Lewis "Thumper" Haight.
Survivors include: wife, Lynda Thomas Haight; son, David Henry (Rhonda) Haight, III; daughter, Lori Haight (Josh) Shook; son, Josue Haight; grandchildren, David Henry Haight IV, Kennedi Ann Haight, Brooke Kali Thomas, Kateylen Elizabeth Shook, Kyndal Lee Shook, and Lera Mae Shook.
Funeral services: Friday, July 12, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. David Carter officiating. Music by Terry Hooper. Military Honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will follow in The Chastain Memorial Park in Blue Ridge, GA. Pallbearers: Tom Sisson, Don Clement, George Danner, Larry Thomas, Bill Huff, Steve Bailey, and Don Hall. Honorary pallbearers: Jim Barrett, Don Winn, Howard Tilley, and Dale Dyer.
The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Friday, July 12, 2019, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.
