Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Daisy Mae Patterson, age 87, of Blairsville who passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at her home.
You were always welcome in Miss Daisy's home, if you came by she would prepare you a home cooked meal, a cold sweet tea and sit with you in the kitchen to talk. Having grown up in a time when hard work was required of all, she was no stranger to gardening, canning, and raising all kinds of live stock. Her "Green Thumb" allowed her to grow just about anything, it was said that she could grow flowers on concrete. Through failing sight and with calloused hands she taught her children, grand children and great grandchildren, that love comes from with in, she didn't allow what others saw as birth defects to prevent her from giving, loving and providing for her family and friends. She is an example to us all. She got married when she was 23, learned to drive when she was 24 and moved to her first house with indoor plumbing when she was 42, raised 8 children and was married to the same man for 56 years. What a legacy she has left. Her granddaughter wrote, "When I look at my grandmother, I see the calluses on her hands that came from a labor of love and hard, honest work. I see laugh lines carved down either side of her mouth where she has smiled and laughed many times through the years. The network of crinkles around her blind, soft, blue eyes show knowledge of every experience that she have lived and learned from. When I gaze upon my grandmother, I see love, strength, wisdom, and everything I want to be when I am old."
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Eugene William Patterson; her parents; son, James Patterson; infant son, Bobby Patterson; daughter & son-in-law, Linda & Martin Thornley, granddaughter, Laura Colwell; great grandson, Gage Patterson and a sister, Lexi Breedlove.
