D. W. Jenkins was born in Culberson, NC on September 3, 1938 to the late Winslow and the late Hettie Jenkins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Winfred, Paul, Elmer, Hoyt, Dave, James and Hubert; and his two sisters, Jewerline Jenkins and Thelma Garland.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jenkins; two brothers, Evert and Kenneth Jenkins; daughters, Doris Bogle and Vickie Ramby; two sons, Tommy and Billy Jenkins; two sons-in-law, James Bogle and David Ramby; two daughters-in-law, Renee' and Lisa Jenkins; four grandchildren, Lee Bogle, Andrew Jenkins, Christopher Achord, Melissa Jenkins; two great grandchildren, Brianna and Jordyn Jenkins; sisters-in-law, Nell, Wilma Jenkins and Judy Reese. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
D.W. left his home nestled in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains just outside the town of Murphy, NC in 1959, and moved to Atlanta, GA to find full time employment. He was hired as a machinist at Mead Packaging in downtown Atlanta in July of 1959. He retired from Mead Westvaco on April 1, 2004 after more than 44 years of dedicated service. He was of the Baptist faith.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with Father John Conway officiating. Interment will follow in the Flax Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The gentlemen serving as Pallbearers are Christopher Achord, Drew Jenkins, Lee Bogle, Dewayne Jenkins, Sonny Jenkins, and Bobby Worsham.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm on Saturday evening at the funeral home.
