Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces Memorial Services for Mrs. Cora Scroggs Pickelsimer Payne, age 95, of Blairsville, who passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 surrounded by her family at Union General Hospital.
Mrs. Payne was born in McCaysville, GA to the late Lula (Denny)and Homer Franklin Scroggs. She loved being surrounded by her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a devout Christian of Baptist faith. She was an avid reader of the bible and Grace Livingston Hill books. She read on a daily basis. She never missed an opportunity to witness to those she met of God's love and saving grace. She loved cooking, gardening, and attending church services and singings. She was Clerk in Charge at Hurst, Georgia post office from 1960-1973. She also received her Certificate of Nurses Aide (CNA) in October 1972 from Fannin Vocation School. She worked at Copper Basin Hospital and Fannin County Nursing Home from 1973 to 1974, and then private home healthcare for several years.
She will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: sons, Kenith J. Pickelsimer, Jr. (Neaomi), Donald J. Pickelsimer (Darlene), and Van N. Pickelsimer (Robin); daughters, Lugenia D. Pickelsimer (Jan Seymour), and Frances P. Reilly (William). Also, sharing in her legacy are 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Cora was preceded in death by her husbands, Kenith J. Picklesimer, Sr. and Edward J. Payne; 7 brothers, Roy, Howard, Clarence, Fred, Herman, Paul and Denny Scroggs; and 2 sisters, Eunice Phillips and Ruth Ann Owenby.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Temple Baptist Church in Morganton, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service begins.
