Conda Casteel, better known as "C.C." Hemphill, age 94, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Hemphill was born in Blairsville, GA. on March 15, 1921 to Ellis C. Hemphill and Eva Ann (Plott) Hemphill. He and his wife Eva were married on May 29th, 1943. They had sons: Franklin, Charles, Danny, David, Kenney; and a daughter, Barbara Patricia Hemphill. C.C. was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Mr. Hemphill enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid trout fisherman. Mr. Hemphill in younger days trapped and traded fur. He later became involved in sawmilling; however poultry, cattle and hay farming was his true work in life.
The grandchildren and great grandchildren will remember how he would pick at them trying to get a laugh or a smile.....C.C. Hemphill was a good man, salt of the earth, honest to a fault.....hard-working - fiercely so! "C.C." Hemphill will be greatly missed!
Family members left to carry on the legacy are his wife Eva, of 72 years; sons: Franklin C. Hemphill, Charles E. Hemphill, Danny D. Hemphill, David B. Hemphill, and Kenneth G. Hemphill; Grandchildren: Bruce Hemphill, Dianne Hemphill Mosley, Chasity Hemphill Cochran, Travis Hemphill, Lacey Hemphill Rothe, Bridget, Brittany, Brianna and Kendon Hemphill. Great grandchildren: Mitch, Michaela, and Matthew Mosley and Sadie JoyLynn Cochran.
Mr. Hemphill is preceded in death by daughter, Barbara Patricia Hemphill; father: Ellis C. Hemphill; mother: Eva Ann Plott Hemphill; brothers: Harold Dwight Hemphill, Seth Cleveland Hemphill; sisters: Mary Ruth (Hemphill) Shook, Nannaree Hemphill and Cornelia Jean Hemphill.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. R.L. Martin and Rev. Ronnie Dilbeck officiating. Special music will be presented by Rev. Jack Cochran and The Hemphill Family. Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, with the following gentlemen requested to serve as pallbearers: Rev. Jack Cochran, Bruce Hemphill, Travis Hemphill, Kendon Hemphill, Mitch Mosley, Matthew Mosley, and Jason Rothe. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening, between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.
