Clinton Daniel Shields, age 86 of Mineral Bluff, passed away October 19, 2011 at the Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia N.C. Clinton was born February 22, 1925 in Cherokee County, NC to the late George and Flossie Ware Shields. He was longtime member and a Deacon at the Toccoa Baptist Church, he served his country during WWII in the battle of the bulge in which he received a purple heart. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Clore Shields, sister, Ruby Gaddis and brother, Ray Shields.
Survivors include niece and caregiver, Robin & husband Ray Martin, sister, Ruth & husband Garrett Ray, brother, James Shields, also brothers and sisters in law, Hoyt Gaddis, Joyce Shields, Thelma Clore, Roy & Blanche Clore, Earl & Audrey Clore, Marvin & Sue Clore, Hayne & Virginia Clore, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Toccoa Baptist Church with the Reverends Bill Johnson, Max Curtis and Matthew Pennington officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Clinton's nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Friday, October 21, 2011 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm and he will lie in state at the church Saturday, from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm.
