Clifton "Whitey" Scroggs

Mr. Clifton "Whitey" Scroggs, age 68 of Murphy, passed away March 2, 2014 at the Union General Hospital. Mr. Scroggs was born August 2, 1945 in Hayesville, NC to the late James Mark Scroggs and the late Genevie Stamey Scroggs. He was Baptist in faith. He was preceded in death by infant brother, Ralph Cecil Scroggs. He enjoyed watching football and drag racing. He also liked to go to swap meets.

Survivors include: wife, Wanda Jean Scroggs, daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Michelle Scroggs and Louis Barnwell, daughter, Heidi Brooke Scroggs, brother, Sherdon Scroggs, sister, Ellen Afonso, sister, Helen Stiles, sister, Nancy Rogers, brother, Duke Scroggs, five grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Edwards, Autumn Nicole Edwards, Jordan Leigh Edwards, Daelin Timothy Mingus, Madison Paige Barnwell, and great-granddaughter, Chloe Grace Edwards. Also many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy with the Rev. Billy Rhodes and Rev. Harold Stiles officiating. Music provided by Makena Harris. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers include J.L. Davenport, Johnny Garrett, Leon Davenport, Lionel Williams, Roger Tipton, and Derek Penland.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy, Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the funeral home to aid with funeral costs.
