The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mr. Clay Woodring, age 83 of Young Harris who passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday evening, November 14, 2012.
Mr. Woodring was born on November 11, 1929 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Clay was a strong family man who was quick on the draw with his humor and wit. With a Baptist faith he followed his Lord. Clay developed a solid work ethic at an early age and held multiple jobs over the years to support his family. He was a skilled laborer in masonry, carpentry and landscaping. His hands helped with several of the buildings on the Young Harris College campus. Clay wasn't interested in general hobbies. He devoted any free time he had to his family, sitting in his chair on the porch of his lake front home enjoying the view with a pouch of Beechnut nestled in his pocket. A few of his friends called him "Windy" because of the time he "spent shooting the breeze" and telling stories. He enjoyed trading for cars, lawnmowers and the like and would trade for about anything. He made "Moonshine" in the Still at the Georgia Mountain Fair and was very interested in local politics.
Mr. Woodring was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Alice Lovingood Woodring; daughter, Pamela Kay Woodring; mother, Dora Woodring and a cousin who was much like a sister to him, Eunice Hooper.
He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: daughter & son-in-law, Irma & Johnny Curtis Taylor; son, Eric Woodring and granddaughter, Kayla Nicole Taylor.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Rodriguez officiating. Special music will be presented by Grace2Faith. Interment will follow in Enotah Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Arsel Lovingood, Max Lovingood, Stanley Berry, Ernie Miller, Houston Moss and Heath Moss. Honorary escort will include: Loy Woodring, Vaughn Woodring, Evan Woodring, Bill Holcomb, Benny Barrett, Max Rogers and Gene Rogers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 until 9 pm.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee.
