Mrs. Claudine Effieann Holmes Hughes, age 87 of McCaysville went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Gilmer County Nursing Home in Ellijay. Mrs. Hughes was born February 7, 1926 in Pickens County, GA to the late Floyd Holmes and the late Estelle Grizzle Holmes. A member of the Fairview Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Roy E. Hughes, brothers, Milton Nebraska Holmes and Hilton Alaska Holmes, and one sister, Willa Ruth Holmes Downs.
Claudine worked as a Quality Control Inspector for Levi Strauss. She loved to play the piano and was a talented quilter. She was known for her wonderful biscuits. Claudine was adored by her family.
She is survived by daughter, Glenda Hughes Queen, sons and daughters in law, Roy Dean and Maeola Stepp Hughes, Milton and Kim Buck Hughes, and Hilton Delane Hughes, sister Rosemary Langhans, brother in law, Lloyd Hughes, six grandchildren, Julia (W.L.) Panter, Clinton (Ginger) Hughes, Gina Moore, Mitch (Megan) Hughes, Angelica (Andy) Lakhani, and Roy Lee Queen, eight great-grandchildren, Hannah Lasley, Joshua Lasley, Matthew Lasley, Abigail Hughes, Annelise Hughes, Bridgett Morgan, Amanda Sanders, and Chase Lakhani. Also several nieces, nephews and great, great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Clinton Hughes and Rev. Claude Mathis officiating. Music provided by Ed Vest. Interment will follow in Kingtown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers include Andy and Chase Lakhani, Mitch Hughes, Roy Lee Queen, Joshua and Matthew Lasley. Honorary pallbearers include Chris Beavers, Lynn Panter and Wallace Pittman.
The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville, Monday, July 8, 2013 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
