Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Clara Abercrombie Brackett, age 98, of Blairsville, who passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Brackett was born in Mineral Bluff, Georgia, on April 14, 1917, a daughter of the late Pinkney Abercrombie and Margaret Wright Abercrombie. Clara was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church who lived out her faith in the Lord daily. With a humble spirit, she was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Southern hospitality just came natural to her and all would feel welcome when around Clara. Never judgmental, she approached every situation with love and acceptance, always able to find the good in people.
Clara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was very proud of her family. Described as fun and outgoing, she was truly beautiful inside and out. Clara enjoyed quilting, and gifted many of her pieces to family and friends. She also kept the most wonderful garden surrounded by flowers. Her family will cherish memories of home cooked meals and her famous fried pies.
Mrs. Brackett will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: daughter, Charlene Grizzle; son & daughter-in-law, Larry & Cathy Brackett; 3 grandchildren and their spouses: Tim & Christa Grizzle; Stephanie Hollis; and Shannon & Dawn Brackett. Also, sharing in her legacy are her great grandchildren: Jacob Grizzle, Jordan Grizzle, Spencer Brackett and Brooks Brackett. She was preceded in death by: her husband of 42 years, Grady Brackett; her parents and 9 siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015, from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Bill Swafford officiating. Music will be presented by the New Union Baptist Church Choir. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Tim Grizzle, Jacob Grizzle, Shannon Brackett, John Brackett, Jordan Grizzle, and Stephan Foster. Honorary Pallbearers include Spencer and Brooks Brackett. Interment will follow in Liberty Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Grady. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 15, 2015, from 6 until 8 p.m.
