Charlotte Taylor O'Rourke went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, December 18, 2018. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Charlotte was born on December 21, 1924 in Forrest Hills, Queens NY and was the 5th of the 8 children of Peter Taylor and Charlotte Meyer Taylor.
The first 40 years of her life were spent on Long Island, NY. During WWII Charlotte was employed by Republic Aviation. After the war she met James Patrick O'Rourke, who upon his return home from the Navy, was also hired at Republic, and subsequently joined the same carpool. They were married February 5, 1949. Charlotte stayed home to raise their four children.
In 1965 a promotion took the family to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. The adventure continued to Bangkok, Thailand, CA, TX, TN and GA. In 1973, Charlotte began employment in sales with Dillard's/Cain Sloan Company in Nashville. By her retirement in 1987, Charlotte had been number one in sales all 13 years! Her customers were well taken care of and they were loyal. Charlotte enjoyed retirement, loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and friends. She especially enjoyed teaching and playing Skip-Bo and other card games with her grandchildren and attending Bingo at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Franklin TN with friends. Charlotte was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church in Nashville and of The Association Of Ladies Of Charity.
From 1999 until her passing Charlotte blessed her children by agreeing to live in their homes.
In 2015 Charlotte moved to Blairsville, GA to the home of her daughter and son-in-law where she again made more memories with her family and made new friends. She also became a member of St. Francis Of Assissi Catholic Church.
Charlotte was preceded in death by James in 1987, their infant son in 1950, her parents, and all 7 of her siblings Alvina, Peter, Harry, Freddie, Mary, Lenny and Charlie.
Charlotte will be lovingly remembered by her children; son, Richard C. O'Rourke, Ethridge TN, daughter Mary O. George and her husband Nicholas, Blairsville GA, son James P. O'Rourke and his wife Tammy, Ethridge TN, son Thomas J. O'Rourke and his wife Lisa, Ethridge TN, 27 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren (#'s 29 and 30 on the way), 1 great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved them well and they loved her.
A funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Church of the Assumption, 1227 7th Avenue, North, Nashville, TN.
