Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces memorial services for Charles Thomas Wilson, who went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 13, 2017. Tom, better known as husband, Dad or Paw-Paw was born June 18, 1948 in Gulfport, Mississippi. He graduated Gulfport High School in 1966, where he played baseball and football. After high school he attended college at the University of Southern Miss where he graduated with his bachelor degree and he also received his Master's degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. Tom served in the Army stationed in Korea during the Vietnam Era and continued his service in the Army Reserves where he was a part of Operation Desert Shield loading ships in Texas. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Major and with the Federal Government as a Senior Analyst with the Internal Revenue Service after a total of 41 years of dedication to our Country's Government.
Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother, Herbert "Coach" Wilson and Edna Louis Wilson (Gentry). He was survived by his wife of 43 years, Marjorie Ann Wilson (Briscoe), his three daughters, Kelly Wilson of Canton, GA; Jennifer Wilson Piner (Corey) of McDonough, GA; and Stephanie Wilson Horne (Justin) of Newnan, GA; his seven grandchildren, (Cody, Emily, Riley, Robert, Isabella, Taylor and Ryan); his two brothers Herbert Wayne Wilson (Sabra) of Saucier, Mississippi and Dr. James Allen Wilson (Roxanne) of Lakeland, Florida; one sister-in-law Susan Briscoe Woods (Ray) of Statham, GA; two brother-in-laws John (Bubba) William Briscoe (Helen) of Jefferson, GA and Hubert Andrew Briscoe (Sheila) of Winder, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved them all.
Dad was a humble man; he never liked to be the center of attention. In life and now in death, he wouldn't want us to focus on him. He wouldn't want us to focus on the sadness of his death, but instead focus on the happiness in our lives. He would want us to appreciate each other and our future.
Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, November 17, 2017, to be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory in Blairsville, with Rev. Tony Black officiating. Military honors will be presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the local DAV or American Legion.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville. Please share your condolences and sign the guest registry online at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
