Mr. Charles Thaxton Burt, age 87 of Ducktown, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at his home. Mr. Burt was born February 17, 1928 in Moultrie, GA to the late Freeman Burt and the late Nola Love Burt. A member of St. Marks Episcopal Church, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Robbie Rutland Burt, second wife, Jo Ann Holbrook Burt, and son, James Alexander Burt. Charles served his country during the post WWII era enlisting in the Army. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Auburn and worked for Tennessee Chemical Company as the Superintendent of Personnel. Charles enjoyed gardening, going to the beach and watching the Braves baseball team and the Auburn football team in his spare time.
Survivors include: daughter, Charlene (Bill) McLaughlin, daughter, Lisa (Tony) Brown, two granddaughters, April Long and Sophia McCormick, four great-grandchildren, Landon Long, Logan Long, Duncan Long and Izaiah McCormick.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Perry Scruggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Crestlawn Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers include Bill McLaughlin, Tony Brown, Joe Placher, David McCormick, Timmy Long and Lawrence Hoogendoorn. Honorary pallbearers will be Timmy Payne and Ray Odom.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home before the service from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm.
