Charles "Sonny" Herbert Raxter

Charles Herbert "Sony" Raxter, age 85, of Hayesville, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021, at Murphy Medical Center. Mr. Raxter was born August 10, 1936, in Murphy, NC to the late Utie Hyatt Raxter and the late Maggie Barker Raxter. Charles was a member of Downings Creek Baptist Church, a US Army veteran, and worked with the North Carolina Department of Transportation as a road worker. He loved to fish, work in the yard, and he loved to sing. He also loved animals and people. He was a real "people person". He especially loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with each and every one of them. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Utiehyatt Raxter, mother, Maggie Barker Raxter, brother, Lawson Raxter, sisters, Lula Day, Laura James, Barbara Ann Sain, and Alma Almond.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Raxter, daughter, Jeanne Nanette (Troy) Edwards, sons, Charles Anthony "Tony" (Dottie) Raxter, Stanley Lee (Audry) Raxter, and Scott Clayton (Paula) Raxter, brothers, Clayton Raxter and Garland Raxter, nine grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services: Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 7:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy with Keith Nuckolls and Darren Cook officiating. Music provided by members of Downing Creek Baptist Church, Bob Leatherwood, Linda Scalzo & sons. Interment followed Friday morning, November 5, 2021, at 11:00 am in Peachtree Memorial Baptist Cemetery in Murphy. Pallbearers: grandsons, Zachery Raxter, Bobby Mathis, Graham Raxter, Austin Eller, Bryan Luther, Logan Panter. Honorary pallbearers: Larry Sellers and Steven (Doc) Sellers.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy Thursday, November 4, 2021, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
