Mrs. Celeste Parker Lewis, age 81, wife of Spencer C. Lewis, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 14th following an extended illness. Born in Macon, Georgia September 11, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Brewer Parker and Louise McArthur Parker. She graduated from A.L. Miller High School in Macon, with the Class of 1955, and attended Wesleyan College for a short time. She and Spencer, married for 61 years, moved to Blairsville, Georgia in 1996 from Marietta, having lived earlier in Macon, Clarkesville and various areas around metro Atlanta. In recent years, she had lived in Wesley Mountain Village and in the Union County Nursing Home.
Mrs. Lewis was known for her love for the Lord and love for her family. Friends and acquaintances referred to her as a genteel, Southern lady who addressed life with faith in God, a sense of humor and a smile. Devoted to her Christian faith, Mrs. Lewis herself had written, "Through the years, regardless of location, our church and community have been an important part of our lives. We are so grateful for our Lord Jesus who has walked us through the years…carrying us when the road was very rough and leading us all of the other times." Despite her physical limitations and constant pain, Mrs. Lewis usually wore a smile and was an encouragement to all she met. She loved roses and inherited her mother's green thumb for growing them wherever she lived. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother affectionately known as Grandce to her family.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by her husband and two children; Spencer Lewis, Jr of Charleston, South Carolina and daughter Evelyn Lewis Ueltzen and son-in-law David Ueltzen of Blairsville; and six grandchildren: Matthew Ueltzen of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Bonnie (Marc) Nicklien of Delray Beach, Florida; Tanner (Chelsea) Ueltzen of Clinton, North Carolina; Ashley Lewis of Bluffton, South Carolina; Blake Lewis of Orlando, Florida; and Cody Lewis of Charleston, South Carolina; seven great- grandchildren; sister, Frances McCrary and brother-in-law Dennie of St. Simons Island, and sister Cathe Dondes and brother-in-law David of Macon, Georgia; along with a number of nieces and nephews and extended family.
