Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Rogers Nicholson, of Blairsville, who passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the Union County Nursing Home. Catherine was of the Methodist faith and a member of Bray Church. She enjoyed traveling and had visited all the states in the Union, except for Alaska. She brought fun and laughter with her wherever she went. She delighted in watching her grandchildren grow and often carried them with her on special trips. Catherine was the "Team Granny" to many as she watched the grandchildren in sports. Catherine enjoyed people and worked at Brasstown Bald as an Older American with the U.S. Forest Service after her retirement from Lakewood Fashions. She was born on October 3, 1929 in Atlanta but resided in her ancestral home in Union County for most of her life.
Catherine was preceded in death by her mother and father, Edward and Callie (Brackett) Rogers; husband, Edward Nicholson; son, Tommy Turner.
Catherine is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Teresa Turner; step-daughter and husband, Jeanie and Fulmer Lance; step-son and wife, Dale and Twyla Nicholson; granddaughter, Pamela Turner Bauer; grandson, Curtis Turner; granddaughter, Renea Smith; granddaughter Sasha Quarles and grandson, Matthew Youngblood. She is also survived by many friends and relatives, and especially all the "First Cousins of the Rogers'"...
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. Interment will be held at the Blairsville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. The following gentlemen are requested to serve as pallbearers: Bud Akins, Pat Rogers, Lewis McAfee, Joey Colwell, Jack Lance, Jr., and Terry Jones. Honorary pallbearers are the many folks her life touched and a special group of young folks whom she followed through their sports.
Flowers will be graciously accepted, but if you wish, memorial donations may be made to the Activity Center Fund at Union County Nursing Home or to First United Methodist Church of Union County MAC.
