Carroll E. Martin of Cherry Log, Georgia died peacefully Monday morning April 15, 2019 at Dalton Place, Dalton Georgia. He was 71. Carroll was born January 8, 1948 in Abbeville, South Carolina. He attended Langley Milliken Elementary School, Abbeville High School, and Berry College. He married Mary Jennille Sisson Martin in 1970 and together they have one daughter Jennifer Martin.
Carroll is survived by his wife of 48 years Jennille Martin, daughter Jennifer Martin, son-in-law Mike Lemieux, grandson Gavin Martin Lemieux, sister Trevor (Lindsey) Baker, brother Gerald (Patricia)Martin and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Scott Monroe, his father Herbert Martin and sister Venice Shrimp.
Carroll graduated from Berry College in 1970 earning a degree in business management. He then began his 34 year career at CSX transportation as a telegraph operator. After transferring to the engineering department, he advanced from trackman to several positions and retired in 2004 as the Director of Engineering Operations.
After retiring he relocated to Cherry log and, not one to be idle, worked for various Sisson businesses in Blue Ridge selling billboards, delivering safety programs and performing other jobs.
He was active with the Creepy Crawlers golf league at Whitepath golf course where his teammates and friends were loyal to him for years after he became ill.
Carroll was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, beloved uncle, and loyal friend. He was a cheerful, funny, kind, generous, loving gentleman.
A memorial service will be held May 11 at 11:00 AM at Cherry Log Christian Church, 1149 Cherry Log St., Cherry Log, Georgia. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Carroll‘s memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
