Carrie Mae Phillips, was born on July 18, 1948. Carrie was the daughter of the late James Robert Phillips and Pearl Griggs Phillips. She was a dedicated Sister, Beloved Aunt, and Inspiring Teacher.
Carrie graduated from Towns County High School in 1966. After graduation she moved to Washington D.C. and worked for a year. She returned home and went to Young Harris College for 1 year. She then moved to Augusta, GA, where she lived with cousins. She worked nights as a waitress and attended classes during the day. She graduated from Augusta College, and went to work at the Medical College of Georgia, where she worked for 6 years. She got married, divorced, then moved back to Towns county, where she built a home, lived happily and enjoyed teaching 6th grade science for over 30 years.
Carrie retired at age 64 from Towns County Middle School. Beyond her professional endeavors, she took a few short trips, but was content to be at home by the pool reading a book and looking at the lake, since she had traveled the world when she was younger. She also loved to grow flowers and vegetables, but did not have her mothers green thumb.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family: Alvin Phillips (brother) of Towns County, nieces Ashley Phillips Davis (John Davis), Kayla Phillips Hemphill (Travis Hemphill), great nieces, Kamryn Mull, Bristol Davis, and Brylie Davis of Union County.
Though she may no longer walk among us, Carrie will live on in the memories of those whose lives she touches. Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will continue to inspire us all.
Rest in peace, dear Carrie. You will be deeply missed, but your light will shine on forever in our hearts.
Per her wishes, she will be cremated and a private service will be held with family at Many Forks Baptist Church.
