Carolyn Whatley

Carolyn Jo Roberts Whatley, originally from Murphy, NC,passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's dementia at Pine Ridge Health and Rehab Center in Thomasville, NC, where she has resided as a beloved resident in their Memory Care unit for almost two years. She was in the loving presence of family.

Carolyn was born the oldest daughter to Glen and Elza Roberts of Unaka, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, JL Roberts and sister, Betty Hill.  Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Cono and Tiffany Lovin, along with her grandchildren, Anthony, Joseph and Aiden Cono, and Autumn Lovin. She is also survived by brother Eldon Roberts and sister Becky Graves.

She was diagnosed with dementia several years ago and as it progressed, she was transitioned to memory care where she lived out the last of her days. She was a favorite of the staff at Pine Ridge; loved to laugh and was the star of the dance floor when they had DJ parties! Her time was filled with crafts, especially crocheting. She crocheted miles of scarves and throws for everyone.

Prior to her diagnosis, Carolyn lived a life full of love and family. Her family was her life. She spent many years gardening and preserving the food she grew for her family. She loved beautiful flowers and spending evenings on the porch. She worked many years at Stanley Furniture in Robbinsville, NC. After retirement from Stanley, she found herself working at Harrah's Cherokee Casino as a valet clerk for several more years. She enjoyed meeting new people and never met a stranger. Everyone who met her couldn't help but love her. She cared deeply for her family and friends. 

Funeral Service, Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, Murphy, North Carolina.  The Following Gentlemen will serve as Pallbearers; Anthony Cono, Joseph Cono, Aiden Cono, Glen Roberts, Alex Roberts, and Tony Stewart.  Interment will follow in the Unaka Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 P.M. at Cochran Funeral Home in Murphy, NC.
