Carl Joseph Ray

August 27, 1936 — April 18, 2014

Mr. Carl Joseph Ray, age 77 of McCaysville, passed away April 18, 2014 at the Life Care Center at Copper Basin. Mr. Ray was born August 27, 1936 in Gilmer County, GA to the late I.L. Ray and the late Inez Petty Ray. A member of the Riverside Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Ray, two brothers, E.W. Ray and Frank Ray. He was a retired truck driver from Chemical Leaman. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and being outdoors working on his lawn.

Survivors include: son, Kelly (Janet) Ray, son, Scott (Libby) Ray, daughter, Jan (Dean) Whitaker, daughter, Stacy (James) Garrett, sister, Rethal (Tom) Martin, brother, J.W. (Helen) Ray, five grandsons, Matthew Hollifield, Robbie Hollifield, Chad Whitaker, Brad Whitaker, and Nathan Ray, four great-grandchildren, Brock Whitaker, Blair Whitaker, Declan Hollifield, and Karmandi Burke.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Housley officiating. Music will be provided by Imogene Stewart. Interment will follow in the Crestlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers include Matthew and Robbie Hollifield, Chad and Brad Whitaker, Nathan Ray and Dale Ray. Honorary pallbearers are the Chemical Leaman truck drivers and James Loftis.

The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
