Calvin Franklin Cook

May 8, 1931 — September 20, 2014

Mr. Calvin Franklin "Papa" Cook, age 83, of Mineral Bluff, Georgia, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Copper Basin Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1931 in Murphy, North Carolina, to the late Noah Webster Cook and the late Edith Bandy Cook. He loved Fairview Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and as a deacon since 1992. Calvin was an Sunday School and Brotherhood Director of the Copper Basin Baptist Association. Calvin had worked twenty seven years with Cities Services Company and retired from TVA. He liked baseball, cutting grass and setting on the porch smoking his pipe. In his younger days, he had played minor league baseball in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Calvin was preceded in death by daughter, Andrea Cook Hyde; brothers, Winfred Cook, Kenneth Cook, Harold Cook, and Randall Cook; sisters, Jimmie Powell, Louise Hicks and Glenda Adams; and father and mother in law Mr. and Mrs. Prince Johnson.

Survivors include: wife, Billie Jean Cook; granddaughter, Hannah (Avram) Allen, great granddaughter, Londyn Andrea Allen; brothers: Parks Cook, Danny Cook, sisters, Margie Sneed and Carol Watkins. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services: Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Graves officiating, with the eulogy by Col. Wallace Quintrell. Music will be provided by: William Wright and Tim Gray. Graveside services will follow in Copper Ridge Memorial Garden with Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Pallbearers: Johnny Payne, Eric Payne, Anthony Payne, Terry Lee Watkins, Kevin Watkins and Darren Watkins . Honorary pallbearers: Sam Parr, Rev. A.J. Heaton, Keith Brooks, Jack Suits, Ricky White, Eugene White, Eulan Brooks, Dr. Kenney Atkins, Dr. Dennis Muse, Frank Sanchez, Jim Collis, Tommy Henson, Tim Gray, Roger Long, Danny Ballew, Charles Ray Woodward, Greg Crawford, Steve Cheatham, Rev. Al Patterson, Danny Oliver, Steve Tresslar, Robert Brown..

The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home Wednesday, September 24, 2014, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
