Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Bonnie Jordan McCollum, age 95, of Blairsville, who passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011, in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. McCollum was born in Robbinsville, North Carolina, on September 27, 1916, a daughter of the late Will Jordan and the late Flora Owens Jordan. She had lived in the Blairsville area since 1926, and was a homemaker. Bonnie was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church. God came first in her life. A Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher for many years, church was very important to her, and she had been active in church for all her life. Bonnie lived for her family; sewing, quilting, gardening, and crafts. Everyone who knew Bonnie, knew her to be so full of joy and a smile on her face. She was always singing while doing her laundry, cooking, milking the cow, and other tasks around her home. Her husband, Norman, had preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death besides her parents were two daughters, Ann Akins and Evelyn Lee Weaver; two sisters, Ethel Rose Jordan and Minnie Guffey Jordan; and three brothers: Vick Jordan, Mac Jordan, and Roy Jordan.
Bonnie was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her, but most especially her family: son, Otis McCollum; son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Elaine McCollum; daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Johnny Hamby; son, Jimmy McColllum; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy McCollum Newton and Wayne Newton; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Lena McCollum; son-in-law, Bud Akins; all of Blairsville; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenny Beavers and Rev. Harley Hunter officiating. The eulogy will be presented by Wayne Newton. Special music will be presented by John Nix and Friends. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Jason McCollum, Tyler McCollum, Jody Cantrell, Josh Johnson, William Akins, and Cainan King. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: Bud Akins and Trey Akins. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home has been scheduled for Friday evening, October 28, 2011, from the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.
