Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Blanche Hunter Swain, age 92, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 at her home.
Mrs. Swain was born in Blairsville on April 15, 1922, a daughter of the late James Hayes Hunter and the late Lydia Dyer Hunter. She was a member and faithful attender of Choestoe Baptist Church, and served as the Sunday School Secretary for many years. Mrs. Swain had also been a school teacher for many years, in Union County's School System. Her husband, Horace Swain, passed away in 1968.
Other family members which have predeceased Mrs. Swain are: sisters, Hazel Collins, Irene Shuler, and Mary Lou Walker; and brothers, Howard Hunter and James Hunter.
Mrs. Swain will be dearly missed by all who knew her.....she will be especially missed by her family members: sister, Lucille Johnson, of Hendersonville, Tennessee; sister, Doris Souther, of Blairsville; and brother, Franklin Hunter, of Blairsville; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Swain have been scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., to be held at her beloved Choestoe Baptist Church(New Life Center), with Rev. Ken Zollinger and Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating. Special music will be presented by Bill Collins and Bud Hunter, and Martha Collins. The body will lie instate at the church Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Bill Souther, Chris Souther, Christopher Souther, Barry Collins, Benny Collins, and Mike Johnson. Selected to serve as honorary escort to the family are: Johnny Johnson, Freddie Shuler, and Ken Walker. Burial will be in Choestoe Cemetery.
The family will meet with friends at Cochran Funeral Home on Monday evening, from January 5, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
