Billy Ray Laney

Billy Ray Laney, age 65 of Murphy, passed away June 23, 2011 at the Murphy Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Billy was born March 8, 1946 in Cherokee County, NC to Gid and Neily McTaggart Laney. He was preceded in death by his father, Gid Laney, sister, Marie Davis, brother, Jimmy Dale Laney and one niece, Amanda Laney. Billy was Baptist in faith, he loved hunting and camping. He traded farm animals and sold fire wood, but greatest of all he loved spending time with his great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn.

Survivors include: wife, Marie Dockery Laney, mother, Neily McTaggart Laney, daughter, Sandra Stewart, daughter, Lisa Wright, Brother, Wayne Amos, sister, Louise McDonald, sister, Barbara Kephart, granddaughter, Jessica Stiles, grandson, Brad Wright, great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Stiles and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Aud Brown, Rev. Ralph Barnard, Rev. Bobby Lovingood officiating. Interment is in the Little Brasstown Cemtery. The gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Blake McDonald, Brett McDonald, Jason Gerbino, Brad Wright, Mike Kephart, and Robert Laney. Honorary pallbearers include Phillip "Peewee" Davis, Gary Davis, Rick McDonald, Pete Wright, Brian McDonald, Chris Stewart, Terry Stewart and Leon Dockery.
