Billy Nelson better known as Mr. Gopher, age 58 of Blairsville, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.
Billy was born on July 3, 1951 in Murphy, North Carolina to J.C. and Edna Earl Sampson Nelson of Blairsville. Billy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville, Young Cane Masonic Lodge, the Blairsville Cruisers, a Regular member of the B.R Roundtable and was such a Ford enthusiast that if you cut him he would bleed Ford Blue.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Angela Bell Nelson of Blairsville, GA, daughter, Katie Nelson of Augusta, GA, sister and brother-in-law, Patsy Nelson King and Chris King of Blairsville, GA, nephews, Mitchell King of New York, NY and Curtis King of Blairsville, GA.
Life Celebration services will be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Billy Stiles and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Union Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Robby Turner, Jacky Jones, Randy Sosebee, Terry Roberts, Gene Mason and Steve Hill. Honorary pallbearers include Tyson Chambers, Jimmy Thomas, R.B. Brown, Johnny Thomas, Don Ragen, Joe Carter, Mike Plott and Charlie Brown.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 5, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.
The family requests in lieu of flowers to make memorial contributions to one of the following organizations: The Union County Humane Society, Castaway Critters Pet Rescue, or The American Diabetes Association.
