Billy Fred Shields

Mr. Billy Fred Shields, age 66 of Mineral Bluff, passed away March 2, 2015 at his home. Mr. Shields was born April 6, 1948 in Culberson, NC to the late Olin James Shields and the late Viola Elsie Stiles. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dean Olin Shields and Max Tommy Shields and sister Rachel Shields.

Mr. Shields loved to garden and cut timber for a living. His favorite hobby was listening to and playing music. He played several instruments including electric guitar and steel guitar. He was a member of many bands throughout his life.

He is survived by loving wife, Carolyn Shields, daughter, Tina (Shannon) Gray, daughter, Pamela (Scott) DeCosta, son, Jeff (Tracie) Shields, daughter, Judy (Jamie) Tipton, sister, Frances (Jerry) Franks, sister, Mary Webb, sister, Martha (Chuck) Ellis, brother, Lynn (Mary) Shields, sister, Bonnie VanTassell, seven grandchildren, Megan DeCosta, Ashton DeCosta, Jessie DeCosta, Jacob Gray, Brooklyn Shields, Breanna Shields, and Megan Yoder.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Postell officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Culberson, NC. Pallbearers: Elijah Shields, Silas Shields, Mitchell Shields, Matthew Zimmerman, Marty Ray and John Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers: Henry Wilson, Bill Ledford, Greg Brooks, Roger Watson, Tony Dyer, Eddie Hood, Calvin Hood, Larry Newberry, George Beach, Herman Boring and Jimmy White.

The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Wednesday, March 4, 2015, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm.
