Billy Clyde Decker, age 76 of Murphy, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2007 at his daughters residence. Mr. Decker was born Thursday, August 6, 1931 in Cherokee County to the late Wade Mitchell Decker and the late Bonnie Lee McDonald Decker. He was a US Army Veteran, serving as a Para Trooper with the 82th Air Borne Division at Fort Brag, served two tours in Vietnam, and retired after 20 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphy and the American Legion.
Clyde was preceded in death by wife Betty Ann Britt in 1995 and grandson Jeremy Lane Wilson.
Survivors include: daughter & son-in-law, Donna Kay & David Clark of Murphy, daughter & son-in-law, Susan & Paul Crisp of Murphy, daughter & son-in-law, Brenda Dale & Darrell Dockery of Murphy, daughter & son-in-law, Carol Ann Decker & Scott Dillard of Wolf Creek, sister, Verna Lee Decker Kaphart of Cherokee County, sister, Betty Decker Ingram of Murphy, sister, Linda Jane Decker Jones, OR, brother, Donald Ray Decker of Peachtree, sister, Carol Ann Decker Greene of Ballground, grandson , Jeff Wilson, granddaughter, Heather Wilson, granddaughter, Jill Crisp, granddaughter, Anna Beth Kidd, granddaughter, Samantha Dale Dockery, granddaughter, Taylor Deann Dockery, grandson, Evan Emory Clyde Dillard, grandson, Easton Scott Landon Dillard, granddaughter, Emily Rose Ann Dillard, great-granddaughter, Kelsey Fulgham, great-grandson, Sean White, great-granddaughter, Kyra Yates, great-grandson, Cameron Yates, great-granddaughter, Elijah Carver, great grandson, Madeline Wilson, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2:00PM Monday, November 26, 2007 from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Aud Brown and Reverend Calvin Murphy officiating. Music was provided by Reverend and Mrs. Aud Brown. Interment followed in the Greenlawn Cemetery. Military graveside rites were conducted by local veteran?s organizations: Murphy VFW Post 1022, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post 96 and DAV Chapter 73 and Clay County VFW Post 6812. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, T. J. Shields, Devin Decker, Jarad Carver, David Decker and Bo Cordell.
