On Friday, October 26, 2007, Beulah M. Harlow, passed away quietly at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, after a long bout with Alzheimer's disease. Beulah was 86 years young, born Friday, February 25, 1921 in Montgomery County, Mississippi, to the late Thomas Luther Hudson and the late Modina Jordan Hudson. She was preceded in dath by her husband and other brothers and sisters.
Beulah graduated from high school in Merigold, Missisippi, in 1942 and went on to serve in the U.S. Women's Army Corps (WACs), attached to the Signal Corps, from December 1942 to December 1945, where she rose from basic private to Message center clerk, T/5 Information Clerk, and finally to T/5 (Corporal) Teletype operator in a two year period with the Signal Corps in Washington, 2506th Service Command Unit 17th Signal Service Company. She received the American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and WAAC Service Medal. Her mustering out pay was $200 with $100 immediate pay and $28.90 travel pay for total of $128.90.
In 1950 she moved from Illinois to Palm Beach County, FL, where she made her home until health reasons dictated that she com to Blairsville to be under her sister, Kathryn's, care. She spent more than 50 years in banking, serving as Comptroller of Lake Worth Savings and Loan in the 1960's and many years with Citicorp until a first retirement. Late she went to work with SunTrust until a second retirement at age 83.
Active in community affairs, she was a member of Lakeside Methodist Church in Lake Worth, belonged to several civic organizations and worked in her community home owners association. She spent 12 years as a volunteer with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (C.O.P.) Citizen Observer Patrol in her community. She proudly wore her uniform and patrolled the streets in a Sheriff's automobile one or two nights a week with a riding partner.
Survivors include two sisters, Kathryn Litton of Blairsville, Georgia, and Susie Garrett of Leland, Mississippi; Many nieces and nephews in various parts of the United States. One nephew, Mike Litton resides in Blairsville.
There will be no formal service in the area, but her cremains will be carried to Mississippi for interment at Milligan Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Kilmichael, Mississippi.
Beulah will be gratly missed by her sisters and nephew, Mike Litton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Foundation.
