Mrs. Betty Ruth Cloer, age 80, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010, at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, Georgia, after a period of declining health. Ruth was born in Cleveland, Tennessee, of August 11, 1930, to the late Kenneth K. Barnard and the late Myrtle Bell Matheson Barnard of Hayesville, North Carolina. She was a graduate of Hayesville High School where she excelled on the Yellow Jacket Basketball team. Ruth was a member of Woods Grove Baptist Church. She was a wife, mother, and homemaker - God and family always came first.
Ruth and Carl had been married for 58 years before his passing in 2006. Ruth enjoyed sewing for her family - especially dressing her four daughters in matching outfits when they were growing up. She was a great cook, filling the table with an abundance of wonderful foods. She enjoyed teaching her daughters and grandchildren her talent for cooking and baking. Mommy and Nanny will truly be missed by those she loved and those who loved her.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Carl William Cloer; daughter Debby Patterson; her parents; sisters Blonde Martin, Jean McDevitt; and brothers Donald and Kelley Barnard.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Dills; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Rick Miller; and daughter, Carla Cloer. Grandchildren include Chris Patterson, Melissa Cameron, Stuart Miller and JoAnna Sholl. Great Grandchildren include Katelyn Patterson, Jacob Patterson, Anna Kate Waters, Caroline Cameron, Jessica and Tanner Cameron. Also surviving are several cousins, nieces, nephews, and uncle.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010, in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Danny Burch and Rev. Daryl Dale officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Sheriff Johnny McDevitt, Jerry Bradshaw, Chris Clinton, Richard Kelley, J.D. Ledford, and Junior Chastain. Burial will be in Woods Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will start at 12 noon on Saturday, the day of the funeral service, and continue until time for the funeral to begin.
