Betty Ann Brown Odom, age, 92, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, December 1, 2024, at her daughter's home in Mineral Bluff, GA.
She was born July 14, 1932 in Fannin County, Georgia to the late Ernest Lee and Pearl Ballew Brown. She married her childhood sweetheart Hobert Luther Brown on her 16th birthday in 1948 and she and Hobert had two children Elizabeth Anne and Hobert Daniel. Hobert was killed as a police office in the line of duty in Blue Ridge, GA on December 22, 1959. Betty was left a widow at the young age of 26 with no public work experience, two young children to raise and no benefits. She was a very talented seamstress and managed to raise her children designing and sewing clothes for women of the neighborhood and church for a few years. She also made all her children's clothes. However she found it harder and harder to make ends meet and her brother convinced her to come live with him and his family in Atlanta, GA and her mother moved into her home to care for Anne and Dan so their lives did not have to be upheavaled. But she never missed a weekend driving back to Mineral Bluff to be with her children. Finally, a local dentist named Dr. John Webb took a chance on her and hired her as his dental assistant and she moved back home. She worked for Dr. Webb for many years and then was offered a job at the Fannin County Bank and worked at the bank until her retirement.
On Christmas Day in 1970 she married again to James Robert Odom. They had a full and happy life together until his passing on May 13, 1994.
Betty was a devoted member of Mineral Bluff Baptist Church and choir director for many years. She had the voice of an angel and surely is happy now singing in that heavenly choir. Her faith was made evident by her selfless devotion to her friends and especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, and you never left her home hungry. And she was one of the first with several dishes for the church dinners and meals for families who had lost loved ones or were sick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband's Hobert Luther Brown and James Robert Odom, and brothers James Lee Brown, Ernest Benjamin Brown and Eugene Felix Brown.
She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Anne (Buzz) Quintrell and Hobert Daniel (Janice) Brown, brothers and sisters-in-law Fredrick Maxton (Dee) Brown, Roy Edward (Gail) Brown, Carolyn Woody Brown and Kathryn Godfrey. Grandchildren Brandon (Cris) Quintrell, Kayla (Jeryl) Fortenberry, Christopher (Susan) Buttram and Daniel (Fabiola) Brown, great-grandchildren, Chesley, Brady, Mason, Emily, Kenna, Savannah and great-great-grandson, Jaxon, also many nieces and nephews.
Betty will lie in state at Mineral Bluff Baptist Church from 12 noon until 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 5, 2024 and the family will receive visitors then. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 pm at the church. Reverend Jeff Brown and Pastor Joe Long will officiate and music will be provided by Valarie Long and Jeff Brown. Interment will follow at Chastain Memorial Park Cemetery in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Brandon Quintrell, Jeryl Fortenberry, Christopher Buttram, Daniel Brown, Jimmy Nichols, Brady Ramey and Mason Ramey.
