Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mrs. Betty Callaway Starrett, of Hiawassee, who passed away Saturday morning, January 25, 2014.
Betty was born in Lovejoy, Georgia on October 31, 1928 to the late Marvin Willis & Mary Emma (Turner) Callaway. It was love at first sight when a strapping young man named Howard, offered to carry this "little black headed gal's" book home from school. After his return from Naval Service in WWII they were married and so two became one flesh. A healthy marriage that served as an example for her children and inspiration to anyone they encountered. An agreement that marriage is teamwork, Howard would cook meals for the family and Betty would add the finishing touches and both would share in the clean up. Betty gracefully managed to balance her successful career in legal administration and her husband's demanding career with her sacrificial love of her family. She was always there to support "her boy's" and offer motherly wisdom and raising her children in a Christian home. She lived her faith by example and offered her organizational abilities to McConnell Memorial Church in the Library Ministry. Betty loved flowers and working in her yard. She enjoyed bowling, but more so spending time as a family and the meal shared together afterwards.
She will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: loving husband of 67 years, Howard Starrett; son & daughter-in-law, Howard Thomas, Jr. (Tom) & Liz Starrett; son & daughter-in-law, Terrell Lee (Terry) & Brenda Starrett; and sister, Emma Jean Bowen. 3 grandchildren, Erica Bearden, April Seabolt & Connor Starrett and 2 great grandchildren, Walker & Clayton Seabolt also share in her legacy. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Annette Vining and brother, Willis Marvin Callaway, Jr..
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee with Rev. Phil Herd officiating. A Eulogy will be presented by Allan Driskell. Special Music will be presented by Patsy Daniel. Interment will follow at Osborn Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 until the service begins.
