Bertha Jean Powers

Mrs. Bertha Jean Powers, age 86, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023. She was born on April 28, 1937, in Blairsville, Georgia, to the late Lincoln Garrett and the late Martha Seabolt Garrett. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Blairsville, Georgia. 

Bertha had a profound love for nature and the great outdoors. Her passion for flowers and hummingbirds brought her much joy throughout her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two of her children, Elaine Day and Bobby Dixon, and siblings Rev. Willis Garrett, Jimmy Garrett (Jean), Mae Clark, Beulah Penland, Shirley Carey, and Myrtle Collins.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Thurmond Ray Powers of Dahlonega; children Sidney Michael Dixon (Lori) of Cumming, Jerry K. Dixon of Dahlonega, and Sherry Wilson (Zach) of Eatonton; grandchildren Michael Joseph Dixon, Savannah Harkins, Patrick Harkins, and Jordan Wilson; great-grandchild Raylan Dixon. She is also survived by her siblings, Vivian Conley, Evelyn Shook, and Bessie Brown, all of Blairsville.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment will take place in the cemetery of New Harmony Baptist Church in Union County with Rev. Kenny Beavers officiating.
