Bertha Mae Bright Jones

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Mae Bright Jones, age 81, of Blairsville, who went on her next journey on Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013.

Mrs. Jones was born and raised in the foothills of Tusquittee, North Carolina, on November 24, 1931, a daughter of the late Luther Bright and Flora Arizona Smith Bright. As the oldest of seven children, Bertha began helping her parents care for her brothers and sisters at the age of 10. Once she learned to make biscuits that became her daily morning duty. Growing up during the depression, she learned to be thrifty, raise a garden and canning. All of which she continued throughout her life and was passionate about sharing those stories and passing on her wisdom from experience. She loved gathering together as a family especially when the grandchildren came to visit. She would say, "From the top of your head to the bottom of your feet, I love every inch of ya!" With a heart for hospitality she did everything to make others feel comforted. Whether making a plenty of your favorite food when you come to visit or lending a helping hand to her neighbors and community when there was a need. Bertha was a woman you could count on. She loved to cook for family & friends, but there was no need in asking for the recipe because all of it was cooked with a dash of this, a little bit of that and lots of love. Bertha was a devoted wife and mother, who tended her home and did house cleaning for several doctors and others in the community. Armed with a deep faith in the Lord and a well worn bible, she lived life with a cheerful smile on her face.

She will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: daughter & son-in-law, Glenda & Larry Davis; daughter, Wanda Jones; son & daughter-in-law, Eland & Bobbie Jones; grandchildren, Stephne (George) Dangler, Darren (Christy) Jones, Cassandra (Derek) Young and Brit Jones; great grandchildren, Catherine Dangler, Hunter Young, Ella Dangler, Kaelyn Jones and Scotty Dodson; sisters, Frances Bright and Billie Sue Thomas and brothers, Bobby, Riley and Danny Bright. Numerous nieces and nephews also share in her legacy. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Reid Gene Jones, infant daughter, Kathrine Jones and her parents

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Randolph Jones officiating. Special Remembrances and music will be shared by Brit Jones. Interment will follow in Liberty Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Reid. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: George Dangler, Derek Young, Shannon Jones, Bobby Joe Bright, Travis Jones and Roger Thomas. Honorary escort to the family will include Hunter Young and Jimmy Wheeler. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, November 1, 2013 from 6 until 9 p.m.
