Bertha E. Ballew

Mrs. Bertha Evelyn Ballew, age 95, of Blue Ridge, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at Pruitt Nursing Home in Blue Ridge. Mrs.Ballew was born June 19, 1919, in Greensboro, GA to the late Joseph Withrow and the late Mollie Newman Withrow. Bertha was a member of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing the piano, reading the Bible, doing "word search" puzzles, and also caring for her family.
She played basketball in high school in Green County, GA and was very athletic in her younger days. Mrs. Ballew loved working in her flowers and was an emeritus member of the McCaysville Beulah Chapter of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, David "Pistol" Ballew, Sr., and one son, Clinton Ballew.

Survivors include: son, David (Janet) Ballew, Jr., daughter, Carole Kell and grandchildren, Robin, Tammy, Kelly, Kevin, Carlton, and Kim; great-grandchildren, Robert Ballew, Evan Bowling, Will Stinson, Carlie Stinson, and Carlton Kell.

Funeral services will be held at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Harry Gilbert officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Jimmy Helton and the eulogy by grandson, Carlton "Tain" Kell. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Ronnie Withrow, Edward Withrow, Robby Ballew, Will Stinson, Carlton Kell and John Bowling. Entombment will follow in Copper Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm.
