Mrs. Barthenia Stroud Dyer, age 89, of Dallas, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Wellstar Paulding Nursing Home.
Mrs. Dyer was a native of Morristown, Tennessee, and was a daughter of the late Richard and the late Bessie (Chadwell) Stroud. Leaving home, as a young woman, she found herself in Detroit, Michigan for work. Where she met the man she would soon marry, through mutual friends. Elbert & Barthenia were married in 1955 and with the news of expecting a child in 1957 decided "the city would be no place to raise a child".
Mrs. Dyer was a strong Christian woman and a member of Choestoe Baptist Church. She was soft spoken, but would often speak what was on her mind with that feistiness that all who knew her came to love about her. Her sense of humor and smile brightened the room. Mrs. Dyer lived for her grandchildren who were the love of her life. With a heart for nature and the outdoors, she enjoyed listening to the birds sing as she planted her numerous flower beds and rows upon rows of Daffodils that lined the wood line at her home. During the colder season she would Quilt and Crochet beautiful blankets and afghans that would be given as gifts to friends and family.
Mrs. Dyer leaves behind these to treasure her memory: daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" and her husband, Ronnie Yearty; sister and her husband, Gladys and John Voorheis; sister and her husband, Ella Mae Goan; sister, Sybil Dyer; and brothers, Robert Stroud, Richard Stroud, and J.C. Stroud. two granddaughters and their husbands, Emmee and Alan Bowen and Lyndsee and Justin Brown; four great grandchildren, Jacob and Trent Bowen, and Weston and Clay Brown. Many other relatives and friends also survive. Barthenia was the best Mom, Granny, and Great Gran that anyone could have ever asked for. She had been preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Elbert Dyer; a sister, Marjorie Coleman; and three brothers: Earl Stroud, Dan Stroud, and R.M. Stroud.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., to be held in Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dick Stillwell officiating. Burial will be in Pinetop Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 25, starting at 11 am, and last until time for the funeral service to start.
