Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Payne Colwell, age 75, of Blairsville, who passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Clay County Care Center in Hayesville. Mrs. Colwell was born June 3, 1940 in Cherokee County, NC to the late Herbert Payne and the late Leona Thomas Payne. Barbara was a lifelong resident of this area and was of the Methodist faith. Barbara had lived four years at Lazy R Assisted Living in Blairsville, and then moved to Clay County Care Center in Hayesville the last two months of her life. A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed quilting, spending time with her grandkids, and taught all the kids to make quilts. All of her grandchildren called her "Granny Colwell". She was preceded in death by her son, Travis Colwell; her parents; and a grandson, Timothy Byers.
Surviving family members include: daughter & son-in-law, Patsy and Steve Lance of Douglas, WY and daughter & son-in-law, Annette & Thomas Byers of Hayesville; step-mother, Flora Payne of Blairsville; three half-sisters: Sheila Mearos, Lynn Laux and Sharon Hale; grandchildren: Tonya and Mark Harris, of Murphy, NC, Nicole and Jeremy King of Woodstock, GA; Dana Lance, Adam Lance, and Evan and Joanna Lance, Patrick Colwell and Allison Colwell, all of Blairsville; great grandchildren: Reagan Lance, Callan Lance, Cooper Lance, Ethan Harris, Makenna Harris, Noah King, and Jackson King.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Friday, November 20, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Corn officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Curtis Colwell, Doug Colwell, Steve Colwell, Tom Colwell, Jeremy King, and Mark Harris. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will meet with friends on Friday, before the service starts, beginning at 12:00 noon.
Flowers are being accepted, but if you wish to do so, memorial contributions may be made to your choice of either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or to The Gideons.
