Barbara Dale Smith Goyette, 84, of Hayesville, died at approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at a Murphy, N.C. care center.
Goyette was born Dec. 2, 1927 in East Aurora. N.Y., the middle child of Russell O.L. Smith and Laura Mae Garret. Before moving to Hayesville in 1998, she lived and worked in Washington, D.C. She was a former teacher and also worked with the Division of the Blind in Washington , D.C. in food service. While in Hayesville, Goyette worked at the Clay County Transportation Department, Reach of Clay County and Moss Memorial Library through the State of Franklin.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Rose Goyette, of Portage, Ind., formerly of Hayesville, her daughter-in-law Lois Tomas, also of Portage; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She also leaves behind many close and dear friends.
A devout Catholic affiliated with the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Goyette was known for her compassionate and generous nature. She was beloved by many, who will remember her sweet spirit and benevolent attitude.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Goyette; her brother Russell O.L. Smith III, her sister Joan Martin, and her parents.
