Barbara Barnett

Barbara Lord Barnett of Blue Ridge went home to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Saturday February 17, 2024, at the home of her daughter Nancy in Jasper, where she sat in her recliner, closed her eyes, and woke up in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband Jess Barnett, and her first husband and the father of her children, Morrie Lord.

Barbara was a missionary child who grew up in Cuba, Haiti, and Jamaica. In Jamaica she met her first husband Morrie, who pastored churches there. She always took an active part in ministry, playing the piano, organ, accordion, xylophone, and autoharp, all by ear. To further their education, Barbara and Morrie moved to Indiana and attended Fort Wayne Bible College. During this time, they formed a musical group ministry and traveled to churches all over the country preaching and leading worship.

Later in life she became a successful businesswoman, founding Barbara Lord & Associates, a real estate brokerage. She remained active in Christian ministry her entire life, leading women's Bible studies regularly. She and Jess retired to Blue Ridge, where she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Blue Ridge Hospital and worked with hospice there. She also assisted in marketing the Blue Ridge Village subdivision.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, a faithful Christ follower, and a genuine prayer warrior. She opened her home to many. She always put the needs of others above her own and lived out the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:12a: "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you." She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her children, Nancy (Jan), Shellie (Don), and Jon (Rebecca); seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Chris), Michelle, Jordan (Paige), Allison (Matthew), Tyler (Abbey), Emily (Nathan), and Jon Michael (Caitlin); and ten great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at Henry-Cochran Funeral Home, 3911 Appalachian Highway, Blue Ridge, Georgia, on Sunday, February 25, at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Epworth cemetery.
