Barbara Ann Walker, age 84 of Hayesville, passed away October 14, 2012 at Clay County Care Center in Hayesville. Mrs. Walker was born March 17, 1928 in Charlotte, NC to the late Victor and Mildred David Hawes.
Barbara was a loving Mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. There wasn't a thing she wouldn't do for her children. Barbara taught first grade for 32 years in the Gwinnett County School System, and held Bachelor's Degree from North Georgia College and State University, and a Master's Degree from Oglethorpe University. Before her tenure with Gwinnett County Schools, she taught kindergarten from her home. She was a lover of the Theatre and a member of the Licklog Players in Hayesville, acting in over 20 plays over the course of 20 years. She also volunteered backstage whenever needed and helped with costumes. Her favorite production was "Oklahoma", where she portrayed Aunt Eller. A worldwide traveler before and after her retirement, she traveled every year to a different country. Later she was able to take her grandchildren and children on several trips to Italy, Greece, Scotland, and her favorite place of all, England. She truly instilled the Travel Bugs in them all. Barbara was also a talented artist, painting many pictures of her travels that now adorn the walls of friends, neighbors and family members. She was also a very gifted pianist. But her greatest talent and love was of fine cooking. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, and making everyone happy with her meals.
