Mr. Avery Jones, age 85, of Blairsville, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 in Dahlonega, Georgia.
Mr. Jones was born in Blairsville on March 9, 1930, a son of the late Minel Jones and the late Frances Rhodes Jones. He worked and retired from Yellow Freight in Marietta. He was active in the Church of God and served as a deacon for the past 57 years. Avery had a love of automobiles, too, and owned and operated used car sales lots for many years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Stamey Jones and a daughter, Barbara Jones Nichols.
Surviving family members include son and daughter-in-law, David Denny and Shirley Jones, of Dallas, Georgia; son-in-law, Sammy Nichols, of Blairsville; and son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Heather Jones, of Marietta, Georgia; sister, Cleo Jones Taylor, of Blairsville; five grandchildren: Leslie Jones, Amanda McBride, Jimmy Nichols, Jason Jones, and Bradley Jones; great grandchildren: Erica Jones, Alex Jones, J.D. Jones, Kenzie Jones, Kendyl McBride, Camden McBride, Jackson Nichols, Jacob Nichols, Jayden, Brody and Bennett Jones, Mckenzie and Tristan Jones.
Funeral services for Avery will be held on Friday, February 5th, at 1:00 p.m, to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Randolph Jones officiating. Special music will be presented by Randolph and Casey Jones, and Amanda McBride. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Leslie Jones, Jimmy Nichols, Jason Jones, Bradley Jones, Shannon Jones, and Eland Jones. Graveside services will be held in Liberty Hill Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. William Sisum officiating, where Avery will be laid to rest next to his wife Ruth. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 5, starting at 11 a.m.
