Mr. Arnold Lee Hovis, age 76, of Hayesville, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital. Mr. Hovis was born December 29, 1945, in Stanley, NC, to the late Howard Lee Hovis and the late Mary Ellen Loftin Hovis. Coming from the Gastonia area, he lived in Clay County for the past forty-two years. Arnold was a retired minister and active member of Tomotla Baptist Church. He enjoyed preaching and witnessing. He was a US Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam area. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include wife, Amanda Shannon Hovis, children, Michael Eugene (Cheryl) Hovis, Angela Denise Hovis, Nancy Jane (Ronald) Arthur, John Mason Hovis, siblings, Johnnie Marion Hovis, Mary Leona Griggs, Alice Jane Lockridge, grandchildren, Tracy Laree (Michael) Cates, Kayla Maree Hovis, great-grandchildren, Alyak Noah, Carson, and Zane Cates.
Funeral services: Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 3:00 pm at the Tomotla Baptist Church, with Pastor Harold Stiles officiating. Music provided by: Diane Debty, Vicky Olive family, and Randy McClure. Interment will follow in Western Carolina Veterans State Cemetery at Black Mountain, NC. Pallbearers: A.J. Ermlich, Randy Brown, Jim Palmer, John Johnson, Walter Debty, Phill Craig, and Coby Brown. Honorary pallbearers: Alan Brown and The Men's Adult Sunday School at Tomotla Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the Tomotla Baptist Church in Marble Wednesday, February 9, 2022, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
