Arispah Barrett

June 28, 1934 — December 27, 2013

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mrs. Laura Arispah Barrett, age 79, of Hiawassee, Georgia, who passed away Friday, December 27, 2013, in Baldwin, Georgia.

Mrs. Barrett was born in Clarkesville, Georgia, on June 28, 1934, a daughter of the late T. Lester Wilson and the late Katie Allen Wilson. She was a homemaker. Her son David remembers his mother as a very giving woman - one who loved her family, her church and friends. She could cook all manner of foods, especially vegetables - and the lightest biscuits ever! They almost floated off the plate! She loved her houseplants; and plants of every kind. She had hundreds of houseplants, dozens of varieties of outdoor flowers and gave each the perfect care. A better pair of gardeners than Mr. and Mrs. Barrett could not be found anywhere! She always exemplified the perfect housewife. She cleaned, cooked, and cared for her family completely. Most important of all, Mrs. Barrett knew God as her personal Savior and had a relationship with Him. She will be sorely missed. Besides her parents, Mrs. Barrett was also preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Wilson.

Her loving family members are left to treasure her memory: her husband, Homer Barrett; son and daughter-in-law, David E. and Donna Barrett; son, Sidney Barrett; sister, Lou West; sister, Obeta Davis; and brother Quentin Wilson and his wife Frances; four grandchilden also survive, along with one great grandson, James William Luker, IV.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from Union Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Katie Strahls officiating. Special music will be presented by the church choir. The following lady and gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers: Laura Barrett Luker, Thomas Barrett, Matthew Barrett, Christopher Barrett, George Allen, Jr., and Charles Land. Burial will be in Burch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6 until 9 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or Northeast Georgia Hospice 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 115, Gainesville, GA 30501.
