Ann Maloof, the loving wife of Ferris A. Maloof, died Saturday morning, August 22, 2009, at their home in McCaysville, GA.
Beverly Ann Swofford was born in Decatur, GA, to William and Pauline. She attended Young Harris College, and moved to Atlanta, GA, where she met and married Ferris. In 1962, they moved to McCaysville, GA, to live, work, and start a family. In 1982, Ann returned to college and earned a BA in English Education from University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. Thereafter, she earned her certification to teach the Spanish language. She taught English and Spanish at Fannin, Pickens, and Gilmer County high schools. Her commitment to education was known to her students and recognized by the county with the high school teacher of the year award. In 2008, she retired from Gilmer County High School after 23 years of service.
Ann attended Saint William Catholic Church, was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa professional sorority, and was passionate about her grandchildren and gardening.
She is survived by her husband Ferris Maloof, three children, Mark Maloof, Merritt Maloof, and Mathew Maloof, and three grandchildren: Sedona, Nathaniel, and Grahym.
The visitation will be held at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home in McCaysville, GA, on Monday, August 24 from 6 PM to 9 PM. The funeral mass will be held at Saint William Catholic Church in Murphy, NC, on Tuesday, August 25 at 11 AM. Ann requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations for the Somitilo School in Nicaragua be sent to Saint William, located at 765 Andrews Rd, Murphy, NC 28906-3505.
