Dr. Amber Tipton Prince passed away on November 1, 2010 at 4:45 P.M. She is survived by Dr. Robert H. Prince, her loving husband of 39 years. Amber was born in Ellijay, Georgia Jan. 2,1950 and graduated from Fannin County High School, in 1967 as valedictorian. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Georgia College, a Master's Degree from Augusta College, and a PhD in Reading Education from the University of Georgia. Amber taught at Berry College for 27 years where she was the first female recipient of the Mary S. and Samuel Poe Carden Award, given for exemplary standards of teaching, scholarship, and service. In addition, she received the Vulcan Materials Teaching Award that honors a faculty member who has demonstrated the highest level of commitment to teaching.
Amber was passionate about teaching, reading, preservation of bees and gardening. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to The Guest Center at Piedmont Hospital, 1968 Peachtree Road, N.W., Atlanta, GA, 30309.
On Friday, Nov. 5, the family will be receiving guests from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Henry Cochran Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Concord Baptist Church.
