Mr. Alvin Michael Guffey, age 58 of Andrews, passed away Monday, December 24, 2007 at his home. Mr. Guffey was born Wednesday, February 23, 1949 in Cherokee County to the late J.D. Guffey and the late Hazel King Guffey. He grew up a attending Vengeance Creek Baptist Church and later moved his letter to Andrews First Baptist Church. He was a US Army Veteran serving in the US Army Support Command, 86th Maintenance Battalion 98th LEM Co. (GS), Cha Rang Valley South Vietnam. He was preceded in death by brothers, Bobby Guffey and Ronald Guffey.
Survivors include: wife, Kathy Guffey of Andrews, sister, Mildred Smith of Marble, brother, Marvin Guffey of Andrews, sister, Shirley Stalcup of Murphy, sister, Barbara El-Khouri of Salisbury, sister, Carole Brooks of Salisbury, brother, Steven Guffey of Young Harris, Ga. sister, Sara Byars of Southlake, TX, and sister, Tony Guffey of Marble.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 6:00PM at the Vengeance Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Derrick Palmer and Reverend Ronald Patterson officiating. Special music will be provided by Maron El-Khouri. Interment will follow in Derreberry Cemetery with military honors by Murphy VFW Post 10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post 96 and DAV Chapter 73 and Clay County VFW Post 6812.. Serving as pallbearers are: Bruce Rose, Johnny Stalcup, Roger Connely, Kenny Sutherland, Wayne Taylor and Tony Guffey.
The family will receive friends at the Vengeance Creek Baptist Church from 4-6 PM, Thursday, December 27.
