Ms. Lorina A. Humphrys, age 97, of Copperhill, passed away May 29, 2019, at The Life Care Center of Athens, TN. Lorina was born to a pioneering family of the Grassy Creek Community on November 28, 1921, in Copperhill, TN. Her parents were the late George Washingtion Humphrys and the late Louisa Lock Humphrys. She resided in the same home for over 91 years, until illness necessitated her to move in order to receive medical assistance. She was of the Baptist Faith and attended Mt. Harmony Baptist Church for many years, teaching many children in Sunday School.
Lorina worked in the Engineering Department of the Tennessee Copper Company and later Cities Service Company. After her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, canning and preserving, and caring for her numerous cats.
Ms. Lorina lived a life of service to others. She was a caregiver to her parents and brother during their final illnesses and deaths. She volunteered as a gray lady at Copper Basin Hospital and delivered meals through the Meals on Wheels Program. She donated to numerous charities, and even in her death, willed monies for the Scholarship Program at Copper Basin High School.
She was preceded in death by parents, brothers, Homer, Claud, Oscar and Floyd Humphrys and sisters Amy Tallent and Marie Boyd. She is survived by one sister, Jessie Humphrys and many nieces and nephews.
Per her request, a simple funeral service will be held at the Finch-Cochran Chapel on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 12:00 PM with nephew, Rev. Richard Tallent, officiating. Pianist, niece, Mary Alice Huff will be providing accompaniment for the congregation. Interment will follow in the Grassy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, Lorina requested donations to the Grassy Creek Cemetery Fund. A donation box will be available at the visitation or donations may be mailed to Grassy Creek Cemetery Fund; 135 Tallent Rd.; Copperhill, TN 37317.
